thoughtful details
why we love this product...
"we just love strolling the 30a beaches and soaking up the chill vibes of the charming towns along the way. alys beach has such a magical, calming aura about it. we're drawn to the town's stunning white architecture and how all the buildings seem constructed to last 200 years!
the weathered bermudian-style butteries greeting us at the entrance always catches our eye when visiting alys beach. we found them so inspiring, looking like they've aged gracefully over a century in the coastal elements. that's what motivated us to design this decorative buttery object to have that same weathered, historical look. we wanted to share a small piece of the coastal architecture we adore with others who appreciate the simplicity of historical design."

provenance
a signature of bermudian architecture since the 17th century, the practical buttery began as a detached pantry and preparation room beside colonial kitchens. its form followed its function, with thick limestone walls, ventilation, shelving, and exterior access that kept food cool in a tropical climate. this practical setup made the buttery an essential part of any bermudian kitchen.
influenced by british colonial style, the buttery's quintessential design was perfected over time. wooden shutters, cabinetry, and refined proportions enhanced its visual appeal as a mini-architectural annex. often raised on a foundation for airflow, the buttery's pointed roof enabled convective cooling.
by creatively adapting english architecture to meet local needs, bermuda's builders created a new vernacular style. with its signature shape and layout, the buttery remains an icon of bermudian homes today. its blend of practical storage and tropical style gave colonial kitchens an indispensable food preparation space.
I love this reminder of my happy place. Hand made, iconic shape makes me smile to see in my home. This is a great find! The shape and texture perfectly captures the Bermuda buttery. Arrived quickly and well packaged. Thanks so much for this lovely home accent!
